Intersegmental Traction (IST): At Prosper Chiropractic, IST is used to help gently and effectively stimulate normal range of motion to your spine. It also facilitates muscle relaxation to significantly reduce muscle spasms. This method is utilized typically after an adjustment to facilitate repetitive proper mobilizations of the injured joint which increases blood flow to that area of the spine. The intersegmental traction table carefully elongates the postural muscles of your spine in a comfortable, even manner and allows normal joint motion, circulation and mobility to return. The contact pressure can easily be customized to suit individual needs and sensitivities and is utilized at times in combination with ice, heat, and/or electrical stimulation.

Benefits from IST :

  • Mobilizes the spinal column while simultaneously and gently stretching ligaments and muscles.

  • Increases blood flow and oxygen to discs, ligaments and muscles, thereby improving balance, strength and mobility.

  • The roller table may also be used to increase circulation of cerebrospinal fluid (a watery cushion protecting the brain and spinal cord).

Electrical Stimulation: Adhesive patches are applied to the skin in the area of complaint. When the machine is activated, it can do a variety of treatments from reducing pain, muscle spasms, and muscle re-education. Typically, at Prosper Chiropractic, it is used after an adjustment to amplify blood and nerve intervention in the area of complaint, which in turn will decrease inflammation and increase the healing process.

Benefits from E-Stim:

  • Decreases muscle spasms and locaized pain.

  • Increases blood circulation and nerve stimulation.

  • Decreases imflammation post adjust.

Muscle Release Technique (MRT): is a “pin and stretch” technique that was developed to treat soft tissue injuries involving: muscles/tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. These issues all relate to overuse injuries of the muscles due to acute injuries (pulls, tears, etc.), repetitive motion (micro-traumas over time), and loss of blood supply (hypoxia).  The result of these three major mechanisms of injury is dense scar tissue and muscle adhesions. These adhesions bind up muscle fibers resulting in decreased range of motion, decrease in strength and increased inflammation. Build ups can lead to tendonitis, nerve entrapment (numbness and tingling), and worse case scenario: rupture of a tendon.

Graston: Similar to MRT, graston uses an instrument rather than the doctor’s hand to manipulate the soft tissue. The instrument is used to increase muscular range of motion and function by breaking down collagen cross-links (scar tissue adhesions) and stretching connective tissue and muscle fibers.

By releasing the connective tissue or fascia adhesions, the body will increase the amount of blood circulation into the area for healing the tissue properly.
